TR-85M1 Bizonul |
The TR-85M1 main battle tank, also known as Bizonul, is the latest upgrade of the TR-85 with many improvements. In turn the TR-85 is similar to Soviet T-55, but has some minor changes. Romanian Army operates over 300 of upgraded TR-85M1 main battle tanks. The TR-85M1 features improved armor protection comparing with it's predecessor. It has a bigger turret with additional passive armor over frontal arc. The tank is equipped with laser warning receivers, NBC protection system and automatic fire suppression system. The TR-85M1 has the same armament as it's predecessor. It is armed with a 100-mm rifled gun. This gun is loaded manually. Ammunition is stored in the turret bustle, fitted with blow-out panels. Despite that this gun fires newly-designed APFSDS round, it is inferior to modern 120-mm and 125-mm tank guns. Latest MBTs are a hard nut for the TR-85M1 to defeat. Secondary armament consists of coaxial 7.62-mm machine gun and 12.7-mm machine gun, mounted on the turret roof. The TR-85M1 is fitted with new fire control system. Vehicle has a crew of four, including commander, gunner, loader and driver. The TR-85M1 is powered by a new German diesel engine, developing 860 horsepower. It also has new hydropneumatic suspension. Weight of the upgraded MBT increased to 50 tons, however there was only slight increase in engine power. I

Northrop F-5E Tiger II |
The first F-5A Freedom Fighter single-seat light-fighter prototype flew in May 1963 and went on to form the basis of a major warplane family. Canadair built the CF-5A/Ds and NF-5A/Bs for the Canadian and Dutch air force respectively; the survivors of these fleets are finding a ready resale market to countries including Botswana, Turkey and Venezuela. In addition, South Korea, Brazil, Greece, Iran, Morocco, Norway, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Venezuela and Yemen all currently operate first generation F-5s. Venezuela's VF-5A/Ds have received a limited upgrade by Singapore Technologies Aerospace. The improved F-5E/F Tiger II was developed from the F-5A/B as an International Fighter Aircraft for sale to US allies. The F-5E prototype first flew in August 1972 and was followed by some 1 300 production F-5Es and two-seat F-5Fs for sale to 20 air forces. The F-5E was also assembled under license in Taiwan and South Korea. Tiger IIs remain in widespread service with Bahrain, Brazil, Chile, Honduras, Indonesia, Iran, Jordan, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Tunisia, US Marine Corps and US Navy and Yemen. Reconnaissance F-5E variants are operated by Malaysia (RF-5E Tigereye), Singapore (RF-5S) and Taiwan (RF-5E Tigergazer). Numerous update programmes ar

Aerospatiale SA 321 Super Frelon |
To meet a French armed services requirement for a medium transport helicopter, Sud-Aviation flew the prototype SE.3200 Frelon (hornet) on 10 June 1959. Powered by three Turmo IIIB turboshafts, the SE.3200 had large external fuel tanks that left the interior clear for a maximum of 28 troops, and a swing-tail fuselage to simplify cargo loading. However, development was terminated in favour of a larger and more capable helicopter designed in conjunction with Sikorsky and Fiat. What was to become Western Europe's largest production helicopter emerged with a rotor system of Sikorsky design, and with a watertight hull suitable for amphibious operation. Two military prototypes of the Super Frelon were built, the SA 3210-01 troop transport, and the SA 3210-02 maritime version for the Aeronavale on 28 May 1963. Four pre-production aircraft were built under the new designation SA 321 Super Frelon. These were followed in October 1965 by production SA 321G anti-submarine warfare helicopters for the Aeronavale. Apart from ship-based ASW missions, the SA 321G also carried out sanitisation patrols in support of Redoutable class ballistic missile submarines. Some were modified with nose-mounted targeting radar for Exocet anti-ship missiles. Five SA 321GA freighters, originally used in support of the Pacific nuclear test centre, were transferred to assault support duties. In 2003, the sur
